This Timpanogos trip was an amazing trip. I have hiked Timp a few times but I have never attempted the hike at night. Last week after I hiked the mountain I went to a ward party and got to know some people. I learned that a group of them were going to hike Timp the following weekend. There plan was to leave at midnight Friday morning and hike to the top, watch the sun rise and then hike back down. Well everything went as planned, a group of around twenty of us met and car pooled up Provo Canyon to the trail head. We all got out our flash lights and started up the trail. It was amazing how many other people were their. There had to have been fifty other people all hiking Timp at night. Anyways, soon we split into smaller groups based on how fast we wanted to go. Our group had four people and occasionally we would pick up other stragglers because we were in the very back of the group.

We hiked and hiked only able to see a few feet ahead on the trail but the stars were bright and beautiful. I have never been able to see them so clearly, it was breath taking as we watch several shooting stars blaze across the sky. Mile after mile we marched until finally we arrived at the lake up on top of the mountain. At witch point four of our then big group continued on to the saddle and top. As the sun began to approach the ridge of the earth the sky line slowly grew brighter. All the blackness turned slowly grey and shapes began to appear. Soon we could see the long trail we had just hiked and the valley below us. As the sun approached the grey began to grow colors and the Field turned green with purple flowers laced about. The grand landscape grew and we finally witnessed the marvelous grander of the rocky mountains.

This was my first time climbing the south trail so the hike back down was amazing. On the way up we didn't see any of the landscape which made the hike down interesting. Mount Timp is one of the most beautiful places I have yet visited and I am ready to do it again, I will never get tired of climbing that mountain.
